That is why the concept of 2-factor authentication (2FA) was introduced a long time ago,
which more and more online services and shops are gradually offering. Basically, it is an additional security query that is generated dynamically. This second query is independent of the first. If an attacker steals the user name and password, he cannot do any damage because he fails the second security query. There are different technical options for this second security level. There is hardware authentication, such as a smart card. An additional PIN or an answer to a question is also common. And there is also fingerprint recognition or similar biometric methods. One-time passwords/codes are particularly popular online and there are also some smartphone apps for this.
