Blindfolded Jubo League leader beaten up at police station

Post by Fgjklf »

Atiyar Rahman, Khulna Office: A complaint petition has been filed in the court against the general secretary of Ward 31 Jubo League, Md. Asaduzzaman Shahin, who was detained at the Loonachara police station in Khulna city, who was blindfolded, beaten, and threatened with a shipment of Yaba.

The petitioner has named Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Sub-Inspector Abu Sayeed, Sub-Inspector Russell and wireless operator Md. Mizan as accused in the petition. However, the court did not give any order in this regard on Tuesday. The plaintiff's lawyers have simultaneously filed a written application with the court to collect CCTV footage of the incident at the Salt Chara Police Station to get the video footage of the torture of Jubo League leader Shahin.

According to the sources of the complaint petition, c level contact list Rahul Amin of the Luanchara Switchgate area owes 30 thousand taka to Selim Howlader of Mohammad Nagar area for business transactions. On the afternoon of September 27, ASI Russell and SI Abu Sayeed were holding an arbitration meeting between the two parties at the Luanchara police station. At one stage of the arbitration, ASI Russell grabbed Selim by the collar and dragged him in front of the police station guards, saying that if he did not pay 30 thousand taka within a day, he would be sent to jail.

At that time, Shahin, the general secretary of Ward No. 31 Jubo League, requested ASI Rase to give him 1 month's time. Angered by this, ASI Rase abused Shahin in front of everyone and slapped him several times. Shahin told him that he would complain to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Luanchara Police Station. At that time, SI Abu Sayeed came and took Shahin to a room on the second floor of the police station. He went there and asked Shahin what he was doing.

Shahin introduced himself as the general secretary of the ward Jubo League. When SI Abu Sayeed pulled Shahin's hands behind his back, Mizan, the wireless operator, put handcuffs on both his hands. Then, addressing Shahin, SI Abu Sayeed said, "We, the police, are currently the big leaders of the Awami League." "We have kept the Awami League in power." He started kicking Shahin in the back, saying that without us, the Awami League would not be able to remain in power.

At one point, they blindfolded him, threw him on the floor and beat him. After some time, ASI Russell entered the room, gathered Shahin, and at one point during the beating, brought him down again and locked him in the jail.

At that time, he was threatened with the drugs Yaba and Phensidyl and sent to court. Upon hearing the news of the incident, the leaders including the ward AL president protested and held a protest procession and blocked the road. At one point, local leaders and activists including the police station OC Liakat Hossain immediately compromised the matter and brought Shahin from the police station and admitted him to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

Ward Jubo League General Secretary Shahin said, "I was very helpless due to their terrible torture and use of torture during the incident that day. I am mentally traumatized by the unjustified harassment and physical torture and negative comments about the government and Awami League. After recovering, I have filed a complaint petition in the court demanding punishment for these criminals and I hope to get fair justice."

Liakat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Luanchara Police Station, said that the higher authorities of KMP posted ASI Russell to Sonadanga Model Police Station last Monday.
