Cannibalizzazione delle keyword, danni al SEO e soluzioni

Post by nusratjahan »

Keyword cannibalization is a very common SEO mistake in sites with a lot of content such as eCommerce, online newspapers or blogs with years of activity behind them.

It occurs when two URLs of the same site compete for the same keyword by dealing with similar topics.

In this case, Google's algorithm is undecided on which accurate mobile phone number list page to position and can opt for two solutions: it shows one or the other in the SERP, or it arbitrarily chooses one of the two, and it is not always the one that we consider most important for our strategy.

The presence of duplicate content (common in eCommerce due to similar categories, subcategories and products) also negatively impacts the Crawl Budget , risking penalizing the entire site by lowering authority and ranking .

If you suspect keyword cannibalization by your site's content, the first step to take is to analyze the site's URLs to find the pages that compete for one or more keywords.

How to Find Out If Keyword Cannibalization Is Happening
When talking about sites with thousands of pages, it is unthinkable to manually check the URLs and keywords positioned. However, there are online tools that automate the process , showing the pages linked to certain keywords.

Among the best we have:

SemRush

How to Fix Keyword Cannibalization
Once you have identified the offending pages, there are several ways to resolve the problem:

Redirect 301
If we have discovered that a “minority” page is usurping the place in the SERP of the more strategic page for the desired keyword, it is possible to perform a 301 Redirect by modifying the .htaccess file, thus indicating to the search engine the direction that the traffic should take for that query and effectively obscuring the unwanted content.
